Profe Varda has been teaching since January 2009. After completing her student teaching at Pelican Rapids High School in Pelican Rapids, MN, she was hired as a teacher at Kingsford High School in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where she taught Spanish I, II, III, IV and occasionally English. Profe Varda advised the KHS Student Council and the Spanish Club. She attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI for her undergraduate degree and has done some work toward a Master's degree at NMU as well. During her undergraduate she traveled to several different Spanish-speaking countries. She volunteered for a month in Peru in 2006 working with a program called Bruce Peru that helped students who had left school before finishing to receive some education. Profe also had the opportunity to spend six months studying abroad in Chile at La Pontifica Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. During that time she traveled to Mendoza, Argentina and throughout Chile. Since graduating she returned to Peru for a two week trip with KHS students in summer of 2011, and to Mexico for el Día de los Muertos in 2010. During the summer of 2013 she traveled to Costa Rica with students. She is from St. Paul, Minnesota. During the 2013-2014 school year she taught at Parkview High School in Orfordville, WI.
Profe Varda enjoys cooking many different types of food. Her favorite things to do outside of school are riding bicycles, cross country skiing, gardening, and exploring the woods. She also has a passion for crocheting and being crafty. Profe Varda married her husband, Nick, in June 2014.
For the 2014-2015 school year Profe Varda will be teaching at St. John Vianney School and St. Mary School in Janesville, WI. She will be teaching Spanish to grades 1-8 at each of the schools. She looks forward to working with the students, and is excited to be using technology in her Spanish classes. She is impressed by the welcoming and supportive atmosphere in the schools and hopes to be an integral member of the teaching staff at both.
